Divest from Terror

What does it mean to "divest from terror"?

Divesting from terror is a strategy used to halt economic support of countries and companies that can be linked to terrorism. Specific examples of divestment include cutting off business activities in or with Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria. Divesting from terror helps to secure a safe future globally and is especially important for building peace in regions such as the Middle East. Don't let anyone use your money to fund terrorism! Practicing Divestment: Oil from the Middle East

According to the Energy Information Administration: Official Energy Statistics from the U.S. Government, the following oil companies import oil from the Persian Gulf (the Persian Gulf is defined as Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates):

Companies that import Middle Eastern Oil include:

    Shell U.S. Trading Co.
    Chevron/Texaco
    Exxon/Mobil
    Marathon/Speedway
    Amoco
    Arco

Another oil company that it is important not to invest money in is Citgo. Citgo's oil comes from Venezuela.

On the other hand, companies that do not import Middle Eastern Oil and who should be supported in their efforts, include:

    Sunoco
    Sinclair
    Hess
    Shell Oil Company

www.DivestTerror.org (a project of Center for Security Policy)

"It is a little-known fact that some 400 large multinational and American corporations have demonstrated their determination to place profits ahead of ethical and terrorism-related concerns. That calculation must be changed."

The purpose of the Center for Security Policy is to force governments of terrorist-supporting nations to choose between sponsoring terrorism and critical partnerships with publically traded firms. The website includes many tools for supporting the divestment campaign, such as letters to persuade state officials and investment managers of the importance of divesting from terror.
