Yom HaShoah V’HaGevurah, "The Day of (Remembrance of) the Holocaust and the Heroism," is commemorated annually on the 27th of the month of Nisan, a week after the end of Passover on the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising.
It is a day of remembrance for the approximately six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. A variety of public observances are traditionally held in recognition of this occasion throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. This year, with the strict orders for social distancing, Bay Area clergy and community organizations will use online platforms to bear witness to those who perished and educate about the meaning of this legacy.
April 20 – Berkeley Synagogues' virtual commemoration will include a talk by community member and survivor Ernst Valfer, 7:30 p.m. Registration required.
April 20 – Congregation Beth Emek's Yom HaShoah Commemoration featuring Guest Speaker Leon Malmed, 7:30 p.m. Registration required.
April 21 – The Marin County Virtual Yom HaShoah: Remembrance of the Holocaust is being commemorated with a special video and at 5:00 p.m. the community is invited to light a candle in memory of the 6 million Jews killed in the Holocaust.
