Six Days and Fifty Years

The after effects of the war fought between June 5 and 10, 1967, “The Six Day War,” still reverberate today. A great deal of ink has been spilled telling the tale of how Israel defeated a coalition of Arab armies to maintain its existence, establish the current borders and reunite Jerusalem – bringing the holiest site in Judaism back under Jewish control for the first time in 2,000 years. To assist a new generation curious about events now turning fifty years old, we decided to provide this compendium of the latest backgrounders, new memoirs and freely available resources, as well as links to local events.

Six-Day War Project
This project is a partnership between The Jeruslem Post, JerusalemU, the Jewish Federations of North America, the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, the Israel Action Network and the Center for Israel Education. It consists of 12 short films produced by Jerusalem U and The Jerusalem Post, with their historical content supervised by Professor Kenneth W. Stein of the Center for Israel Education and Emory University. Our team has reviewed the scripts and these films should provide interested audiences with the opportunity to experience events as they unfolded “50 years ago today.” The first four films will be released once a week, beginning during the week of May 15, and the remainder every day beginning on June 4.
