Understanding the Movement for Black Lives Platform and Its Inclusion of Anti-Israel Rhetoric

On August 1, 2016, The Movement for Black Lives released a national platform. The document includes 40 policy suggestions. One section, “Invest-Divest,” caused significant national Jewish community and media attention because it includes hateful and extreme language regarding Israel. Calling Israel “an apartheid state,” the document claims “the US justifies and advances the global war on terror via its alliance with Israel and is complicit in the genocide taking place against the Palestinian people.” Curious how this vitriolic rhetoric got included, and what has been the national response?
