Guest Dr. Peniel Joseph will speak with JCRC Public Policy Director and Community Building Jessica Trubowitch about race and democracy in a summer of uprisings for racial justice. Through their conversation Dr. Joseph will share his thoughts about what the uprisings, and the response from our Federal government, means for the future of our democracy. They will explore leadership and allyship in the racial justice movement today. Finally, they will discuss how COVID-19 is impacting the movement for racial justice and his thoughts on how all of this is going to play out in the November 2020 elections.


Dr. Peniel Joseph is founding director of the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy at the University of Texas, Austin, and author of The Sword and the Shield: The Revolutionary Lives of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr.
