FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 6, 2025
JCRC Bay Area CEO Tyler Gregory offered the following statement on U.S.-Israel discussions in Washington, the next phase of the ceasefire agreement, and the future of Gaza.
“JCRC is deeply relieved that 18 hostages have been freed from Gaza since the start of last month’s ceasefire agreement, but we remain gravely concerned over the fate of the remaining 76 hostages still in captivity. We continue to urge U.S. and Israeli officials to prioritize their release.
“JCRC is also concerned for the Palestinian civilians who have suffered immensely during this devastating war. Hamas continues to show little regard for their safety or well-being. We reaffirm our belief that Gaza is Palestinian territory and when the war is over must be fully rebuilt — for Palestinians. We strongly reject any policies or proposals that would lead to the permanent displacement of Gazans from the Gaza Strip, a position we believe is rooted in our Jewish values and experiences.
“The people of Israel, Gaza, and the greater region deserve a better, safer, and more prosperous future. Yet this seems improbable if Hamas continues a reign of terror that has squandered every opportunity to improve the lives of Palestinians. Until Palestinian leaders prioritize building a functional Palestinian state over destroying Israel, continued violence is nearly certain, with the overwhelming burden falling on civilians.”
