JCRC Bay Area is deeply alarmed and outraged by the violent attack that took place in Boulder, CO, during the “Run For Their Lives Walk”—an event held in solidarity with the Israeli hostages who have now been held in captivity for over 600 days.
Gasoline and Molotov cocktails were hurled at participants, injuring at least eight people, including the cousin of a JCRC staff member who suffered severe burns. Among the victims was a Holocaust survivor. This deliberate act of terror targeted Jewish community members engaged in peaceful advocacy and follows other disturbing incidents, including the antisemitic shooting outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., and the firebombing of a Jewish governor’s home on Passover. These acts are part of a dangerous and escalating trend. Jews in the Bay Area are being urged to remain vigilant and consider increasing security at community events.
“This rise in extremist violence is deeply dangerous, and it is now more critical than ever that we speak with one voice against antisemitism and hateful rhetoric,” said JCRC Bay Area CEO Tyler Gregory. “Silence in the face of such acts only emboldens those who seek to divide and harm our communities.”
Now is the time for unity, moral clarity, and unwavering support for the safety and dignity of Jewish Americans. JCRC continues to work with civic partners to ensure that Jews can thrive in the Bay Area and across our country for generations to come.
