Position Summary

For 78 years, JCRC Bay Area has served as the largest collective voice of Bay Area Jews, bringing together diverse Jewish communities with our neighbors to build a just society and a secure Jewish future. Our flexible, hybrid office is a fast-paced, energetic, and dynamic environment that inspires collaboration and growth. The position combines approximately 60% community relations work and 40% fundraising and donor engagement, with success measured by the strength and impact of relationships built across both portfolios.

Relationship Building: The South Bay Regional Director serves as JCRC’s leading relationship-builder , fundraiser, and representative within San Mateo, Santa Cruz, and Santa Clara counties’s Jewish and broader civic communities. This leadership role is responsible for cultivating deep and meaningful relationships and partnerships with Jewish and civic leaders, JCRC member organizations (partner agencies and congregations), grassroots groups, elected officials, and philanthropic supporters in the South Bay.

Fundraising: The Regional Director will manage a portfolio of dedicated South Bay-based annual supporters of JCRC, and our affiliated 501c4, Bay Area Jewish Action (BAJA). In partnership with the Director of Development, the South Bay Regional Director will prospect, steward, solicit, and thank annual supporters of JCRC, and identify avenues for our supporters to assume lay leadership across the organization.

Community Relations: The Regional Director will serve as the frontline representative of JCRC working with Jewish South Bay communities through the JCRC Council and beyond to ensure strong regional alignment and effective rapid-response coordination as issues emerge. The South Bay Regional Director will also serve as a partner and regional liaison for JCRC’s centralized teams of specialists (government affairs, external partnerships, K–12 education, and Jewish affairs & antisemitism) to implement the organization’s programming and strategy in San Mateo, Santa Cruz, and Santa Clara counties. In addition, the Regional Director will cultivate and maintain strategic relationships with key non-Jewish community stakeholders, civic leaders, and partner organizations in the South Bay to advance mutual understanding, strengthen community partnerships, and support JCRC’s broader mission and regional priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Community Relations & Engagement (60%)

  • Serve as the primary JCRC point of contact for Jewish communal leaders and organizations throughout the South Bay.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with rabbis, synagogue leaders, educators, civic leaders, nonprofit professionals, business leaders, elected officials, and emerging Jewish leadership.
    • Convene and facilitate regular meetings of JCRC council members and regional stakeholders to deepen engagement in JCRC priorities and initiatives.
    • Support and collaborate with grassroots leadership groups addressing antisemitism, civic participation, coalition-building, and community resilience.
  • Coordinate closely with JCRC specialist teams focused on: Government Affairs, External Community Partnerships, K–12 Education, and Jewish Affairs & Antisemitism
    • Identify emerging community concerns and opportunities and coordinate responses with JCRC’s internal policy and program experts.
    • Develop and strengthen partnerships with non-Jewish community organizations, interfaith leaders, advocacy groups, and civic institutions.
  • Strengthen JCRC’s visibility, trust, and impact throughout the South Bay region.
    • Represent JCRC publicly at meetings, events, coalitions, and community gatherings.

Fundraising & Philanthropic Engagement (40%)

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of South Bay-based donors and prospects.
    • Manage donors at the giving circle level ($1800+) in addition to major gifts prospects, contributing to JCRC’s annual fundraising goal.
    • Maintain responsibility for individual donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and relationship management.
    • Identify and cultivate new donors and philanthropic leaders.
  • Partner with development staff and organizational leadership to execute regional fundraising strategies.
    • Support donor engagement events, briefings, and community gatherings.
    • Integrate fundraising efforts authentically into broader relationship-building work.
  • Be responsible for database tracking and information management for donor profiles and pledges.
    • Maintain accurate donor records and engagement plans.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in community relations, grassroots organizing, nonprofit leadership, fundraising, public affairs, organizing, and/or related fields.
  • Has exhibited an exceptional track record of building and developing relationships from the introductory phase to deeply involved level.
  • Strong understanding of and existing relationships within the Bay Area Jewish community and South Bay landscape, specifically, preferred.
  • Demonstrates a deep and nuanced understanding of the Israeli American community.
  • Knowledge of the Silicon Valley tech sector is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success building relationships across diverse communities and sectors.
  • Experience facilitating groups, coalitions, or community leadership initiatives.
  • Proven fundraising and/or donor relationship management experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience speaking to the media and as a confident public speaker.
  • Ability to navigate sensitive community and political dynamics with diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Highly collaborative and team-oriented.
  • Passion for Jewish communal life, civic engagement, and countering antisemitism.
  • Previous salesforce or database management experience preferred.
  • Hebrew language proficiency is preferred.

Schedule & Work Expectations 

  • This is a hybrid position based in the South Bay, with an expectation of working from JCRC’s San Francisco office at least two days per week on Mondays and Wednesdays.
  • Regular travel throughout San Mateo, Santa Cruz and Santa Clara counties, and the broader Bay Area is required to attend meetings, community events, donor meetings, and organizational programs.
  • This role requires flexibility to attend evening meetings and community events, as well as occasional weekend programs and activities, based on organizational and community needs.
  • Given the nature of community relations work, occasional rapid-response availability outside of standard business hours may be required.

Salary: $125,000 – $145,000
Reports To: Chief Community Relations Officer with fundraising reporting to the Director of Development
